Behaviour of the Steel Welded Grid during a Simplified Pullout Test in Fine Sand

This study considered the possibility of using steel gabion baskets made welded mesh for a soil-strengthening function. Examples such applications are known meshes wires with diameters from 6.3 to 12.7 mm and openings 125 225 mm. In case grid, pulling resistance fine-grained soil consists two factors: frictional bearing resistance. Therefore, purposes this issue, simplified laboratory pullout test was carried out four types grid (common in Europe) embedded fine sand. The geometry (opening size: 76.2 × mm), type (low carbon steel, tensile strength 500 700 MPa), diameter wire (2.7–4.5 mm) its cover (ZN + PVC or ZnAl) were taken into account during analysis. It unequivocally stated that as stiffness itself increases, increases test, which is not so obvious popular woven meshes. addition, it has been shown less than 6 suitable reinforcement structures facing, determined apparent friction coefficient (μk = 0.39–1.47) takes values similar given references larger diameters. positive premise starting further research on use smaller production used reinforcement.
